Located on the southern part of the island, with a surface area of 178,76 Km 2, at an altitude of 500 m and a population of 6 928 unevenly distributed in several cores. It is 52 Km from Santa Cruz de Tenerife by road.
To the north it limits with Fasnia and La Orotava, to the south with Granadilla de Abona. It is made up of two settlements: Old Arico and New Arico.
The terrain’s light colouring is a characteristic element since it is covered by salty emissions produced by a very explosive volcanic activity. The emission centre is around the border of Las Cañadas. There are also samples of historic volcanism, one of these is the volcano of the Seven Fountains (volcán de Siete Fuentes), that spurted its lava from the proximities of the great cauldron, in the centre of the island.
